Loki took the glass with a thanks before he grinned. “Once upon a Time? Like the saying said before fables?” He asked, though he blinked at Rikki’s offer that he could get more comfortable. Looking at his gloves and boots and than back at Rikki, the godling nodded once. “I..um. Yes, I would. My thanks” He said and he took the gloves off, followed by his boots and he glanced about before he bounced up (careful not to spill his water) and he took his boots over to the front door and left them beside it (stuffing his gloves inside for good measure) before he returned to Rikki’s sofa.

Glancing aside at her, he considered her for a moment before he looked down, dragging a finger cross the lip of the glass. “Thank you again, Rikki. You’re very kind to me and - Thank you for being my friend. I know I can be childish at times and I’m not a peer you can feel comfortable to call upon. Not without thoughts of ‘He’s too young for this’, I’m sure…but I’m grateful for the affections.”

Smiling, she switched on the TV and found the remote. “I was thirteen when I started doing this crap.”

Not that that meant that she didn’t think Loki deserved better. It wasn’t a fair comparison: she’d had Steve and her grandparents and the Avengers and, heck, all of SHIELD to support her. He had… what? His brother sometimes? His weirdo Mom who sent him on dangerous missions? Kids needed people who cared about them, especially if they lived hard lives. And he was a good person.

"We’re friends, you dummy. You don’t need to thank me for being nice to you."

youusedme : "ce n’est pas un rêve"

"Figures." She sighed, rubbed her forehead. "Of course I’m gonna make you talk in a language I suck at. Kinda surprised there’s enough French in my head for me to dream you speaking it.”

Come on. Think.

"…Rêve. Is that- that’s dreaming, right?”

Well. That told her exactly what she knew already.

She smiled, pulled her knees up and leaned her chin on them. If she could have moved without unplugging the monitor she would have hugged her.

"Thanks. Really."

"For what?" America arched an eyebrow, confused.

For listening, really. “For… Just for being here.”

interdimensional-kickerofbutt:

"I know you’re not, Rikki. am. It is my job to look after the people I’m teaming up with. It’s-” She rolled her eyes. There was no need to have this argument when she knew the truth already. How could it be any other way. “It’s okay. I mean, it’s not, but… Don’t worry.”

She smiled, pulled her knees up and leaned her chin on them. If she could have moved without unplugging the monitor she would have hugged her.

"Thanks. Really."

interdimensional-kickerofbutt:

"Rikki, was the one who was there. If anything, it’s me who should’ve kept him safe. And I failed at it.”

"It’s not…" Jeez. "I’m not blaming you. At all. It wasn’t your job."

"Romulus sent me to find an old woman. I didn’t know why she had to die but he seemed absolutely adamant about it. Shame really, she did make wonderful tea."

She reached up, touched his neck. Jeez, he was going to snap. Who wouldn’t? And his childhood…

"Just… just take a second. Okay? Because I think if you don’t your head’s just gonna break."

His jaw tensed, teeth clenched so hard he was concerned they’d break. What could he do? He wouldn’t make him go through all that if it could be helped. She’s right dumbass, breathe and stop being a pathetic sack of shit.
"He can’t go there. I don’t trust him." Despite his brain screaming at him to stop, the words just kept falling out of his mouth. "He’ll just make him into what he wants him to be, not what’ll make him happy."

"Daken…" She was bad at this. She was really, really bad. Rikki leaned to the side so she could look up at him, kept her hand on his neck, "Come on. Sit down." Stopping him talking would just make it worse: he was angry and scared and desperate. She forced a smile. "You want some bubble wrap to pop?"

"Romulus sent me to find an old woman. I didn’t know why she had to die but he seemed absolutely adamant about it. Shame really, she did make wonderful tea."

"Not exactly a big reader-" Rikki pointed apologetically through to it, "but there’s some comics."

She waited for him to leave. shut the door behind him, and looked, finally at Daken.

What the heck should she even say?

"… I’m sorry for doing this to you. I…" She touched his arm, "I mean I don’t get what it’s like, but I had to do something and calling you… it seemed like the best of a ton of bad options. Still cruel of me though.”

As the door closed something about Daken just wilted. He couldn’t keep the brave face, there was just too much swirling around his head that wouldn’t quit. He shook his head, arching forward to rest his forehead on her head.

"If I had been met with a younger you I would have done the same.. No it was better I found him over anyone else." He sighed and straightened up, brows dipped. He couldn’t stop glancing to the door. What was going to happen to Akihiro? It wasn’t like he was prepared to send him home but he didn’t have anywhere else to go.
"I can’t leave him with Logan. I won’t put him through that."

She reached up, touched his neck. Jeez, he was going to snap. Who wouldn’t? And his childhood…

"Just… just take a second. Okay? Because I think if you don’t your head’s just gonna break."

interdimensional-kickerofbutt:

"Rikki, of course you didn’t curse him," America said grimly. "You didn’t curse anyone. Honestly, I doubt you could if you wanted to. First of all, you don’t even swear; and second, you’ve got no magic. None of this was your fault."

"I know, I know." She smiled ruefully, tucked her hair behind her ear. "… I just… I keep thinking that if I’d been there… I know I’m not his sidekick anymore, but stopping him from dying… it’s kinda my job, y’know?"

[text: America C.] Love you most.

Anya shoved her cell into her bag before slinging it back over her shoulder. The dark suit she’d worn was shoved in the bottom to be trashed later. She just wanted to see Rikki for herself and make sure she really was okay.

She slowed her pace as she approached the looming building that the Avengers utilized. There was no point looking for Rikki since her eyesight wasn’t superhuman too. Instead, she headed inside for the elevator.

She was okay, right? She wasn’t dead anyway.

God please be okay Anya-

The elevator opened and Rikki snapped her head around to see who was coming through.
