"Romulus sent me to find an old woman. I didn’t know why she had to die but he seemed absolutely adamant about it. Shame really, she did make wonderful tea."

She was eighty percent sure she should just shut up, but abandoning Daken wasn’t fair either.

"You listened to everything, huh?" Rikki smiled at him again.

Akihiro gave a guilty look, rubbing his upper arm and looking away from her gaze. Romulus told him eavesdropping was a bad habit that’d get him into trouble. It had done just that several times. But he had to know. Too many people had lied to him.
"It was about me.."
Daken winced and leant against the nearest surface. “She’s.. sort of our sister. It’s complicated. But she’s the most trustworthy of our family.”

"Hey, no-" Rikki shook her head and tried to sound comforting, "This is a… weird situation. I’d have done the same thing."

And now for the job of painting a rose tinted enough picture to convince Akihiro to stay, while keeping it jaded enough to not offend Daken. Rikki forced a smile down at the kid.

"They’re a group of people like you. People who… can do special things. They have a school nearby. Your, uh…" She glanced at Daken, "… Your Dad’s kinda one of their leaders."

Daken all but facepalmed. He made a mental note to never ask Rikki to cover him verbally again.
"I.. see..?" Akihiro cocked his head. Still wondering why his future self couldn’t just take care of him. He was insistent enough that someone do it properly.
"They want to help us. They will just need a lot of gentle and constant guidance." Daken nodded. "Our.. father isn’t the brightest ink in the pallet."
"Dull?"
"Tasteless, looks and behaves like a Neanderthal. Our good looks come from our mother."
Akihiro’s nose wrinkled. “Who is Storm, and who is Laura?”

She was eighty percent sure she should just shut up, but abandoning Daken wasn’t fair either.

"Okay." She was agreeing to trust that he’d show, but what else could she do? Rikki looked hard at Daken for a moment. She touched the his neck.

"We should go get him. He’ll be worried."

This felt uncomfortably like the sort of conversation that he’d eavesdrop in on that Akihira and Natsumi would have had. He grimaced as he beeline to the door.
"That wasn’t fair of me. I apologise." He opened the door, jaw clenched as he looked down at the child. "I didn’t think."
"Who are the X-Men?"
"Rikki, you may do them more justice than me."

"I’m not your phone book." But he was right. Laura didn’t need this.

"Alright, he can stay here for a week. /One week/. Then I take him to Storm. He needs people who /know/ how to handle kids." She left out the ‘traumatised’ part, "He needs… I dunno, other kids. People who aren’t Avengers. At least the Jean Grey school is /mainly/ a school."

"They also need to learn how to deal with a child who, without prompting from Romulus, killed four children in one night. Some of the X-Men have tarnished pasts but I don’t think any of them were that bad.” Daken groaned. This was going from bad to worse and he could hear Aki shifting around. What could he say?
"When you take him there I’ll be with you. There’s things they’ll need to know and other things to leave be."

"Okay." She was agreeing to trust that he’d show, but what else could she do? Rikki looked hard at Daken for a moment. She touched the his neck.

"I think we should tell everyone we can. Safer that way. But if you want specifics…"

She shrugged.
"How about Laura?"

"I don’t know." He pressed his palms together, gaze fixed on a patch of the carpet. "She’s been out of the loop for a while. This might be a little much to place on her— Was that the only person you thought of?"
You’re not public figure of the month you know. Of course you can’t trust anyone.

"Uh… Sorry. You want me to… come back?"

"My all time favorite singer. My ex pulled a few strings, and Tom was gonna sing at my wedding. But, oh well," she mused, getting the noodles to a summer and wiping her hands on a dishrag. "How’ve ya been?"

Should she say she was sorry? Mel probably wouldn’t appreciate sympathy.

"Alright. No new broken bones, and that’s always a plus." Rikki flexed her shoulder. "… You know the, uh, sorta-community service stuff?"

"You can stop," America said slowly, trying hard not to be amused by the girl’s quirkiness… and failing. She gave her half a smile. "I’m probably gonna fall asleep any minute and I’d hate to interrupt your babbling. You can go on tomorrow if you want."

Rikki smiled, half apologetic, half laughing.

"I probably will. Uh. So. See you in the morning?" Because she’d half expected America to be gone by then.

Anya couldn’t help but to beam. She was excited to take her girlfriend out on a nice date. It wasn’t something they got to do since they were always fighting crime or figuring out their relationship or something.

"You don’t have to pay for anything fancy," she reassured before shaking her head. "I’ve never had anyone buy me flowers?"

"Jeez, Anya." Rikki feigned frustration, "Now I can’t get you those. It’s gotta be a surprise.”

"Would you sleep with a stranger?"
"You're a god/goddess..."
"I'm not wearing any underwear..."
"I'm completely naked under all these clothes."
"You're my fetish."
"Can I feel between those thighs of yours?"
"I wouldn't tell you to stop."
"You're so cute when you're flustered."
"I know you like me, don't deny it."
"You want it, don't you?"
"You've a beautiful name, wanna hear me moan it?"
"Nice ass..."
"God, you're just perfect."
